This is a design proposal for a charismatic church in Naturena, Johannesburg. The client was not keen on the traditional ‘symbolic’ design that often typifies traditional orthodox church buildings. They instead requested a simple yet modern design as they planned hire out the venue for other non religious functions whenever possible.
Our design utilises the full extents of the relatively small site by ‘wrapping’ the required parking around the building. An east/west privacy gradient is established which creates a hierarchy of spaces placing the admin area and congregation furthest from the busy road.
The environmental sustainability of this building is exhibited by the application of renewable energy, natural cooling & ventilation along with the re-use of aged reclaimed bricks for the buildings plinth.
